When learning about Rome, dress as the Romans do

PUPILS enjoyed a taste of ancient times with the visit of a Roman centurion.

Children at Castlecombe Primary School, Castlecombe Road, Mottingham, came into school dressed in togas to meet Roman Marcus Secundus.

The centurion tours schools in the area teaching youngsters about Roman times.

His visit coincided with a project on Rome Year 3 pupils were doing as part of their history lessons.

As well as dressing up as a centurion, Marcus brought along artifacts from the era and showed the children various aspects of Roman life.

These included battle techniques, how the Romans ate and even their physical hygiene.

Deputy headteacher Roger Ward said: "The children love it, and it helps them to empathise with Roman life."
