YOUNGSTERS have kept their mouths shut to raise money for a cancer charity.
Pupils at Highfield Junior School, South Hill Road, Shortlands, took part in Macmillan Cancer Support's annual sponsored silence, The Big Hush.
They raised around £1,200.
The 384 children, aged between seven and 11, remained silent while designing Get Active, Stay Healthy posters for a competition to be judged by children's author Jacqueline Wilson, who penned the Tracey Beaker series of books.
Macmillan fundraising manager Judy Spence said: "The Big Hush was a huge success and pupils thoroughly enjoyed taking part.
"Every penny will help Macmillan improve the lives of people affected by cancer with practical, financial, emotional and medical support."
