Firefighters have issued a warning after a fire that is believed to have started after cooking was left unattended.

A woman was taken to hospital and part of the ground floor kitchen of a home in Keedonwood Road in Bromley was damaged by fire last night (January 18).

Two fire engines and ten firefighters attended after the call at 8.19pm, and they had the incident under control at 9.15pm.

Firefighters believe a woman left the flat and when she came back she opened the front door to find the property smokelogged.

She tried to tackled the fire before calling 999 and subsequently was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service.

Bromley fire station’s watch manager Leslie Howson, who was at the scene, said: “Never try to tackle a fire yourself as this delays your escape from the property and can lead to injury or worse. Get out, stay out and call 999.

“The cause of the fire is believed to be cooking left unattended. If you are cooking and you have to leave the room, turn the heat off before you do.”
