It is all the rage at the moment to find famous selfies that match our own but how can you give it a go?

Google recently set up a feature on is Arts and Culture app (US only) that matches your selfie with a famous artist portrait.

In the UK the National Portrait Gallery has just launched something fairly similar but this one matches your mood with particular paintings in their archive.

Set up by The Young People’s Guide to Self-Portraiture is a digital resource made by young people for young people.

It was created as part of the National Portrait Gallery’s Heritage Lottery-funded project following the acquisition of Van Dyck’s final self-portrait.

Artist Anthony Luvera collaborated with a group of young people aged 16-21 years to research self-portraiture.

The National Portrait Gallery has a huge collection of amazing self-portraits so there will be at least one which expresses how you’re feeling.

Today for example, I was matched with Cecil Beaton’s work. Beaton is renowned for retouching self portraits with pencil to enhance the photography.

How to use it…

Visit http://npgselfiesnap.org.uk/

Tell them how you feel with the scrolling bar (Sensitive, glamourous, sad, etc)

You then choose from a number of different snaps that mirror that mood.

Once matched you can either discover more about the artist or take your own selfie that matches the one in front of you.

Share on Facebook or Twitter and spread the selfie matching.
