A beautiful Christmas sled built by hobbyists was well received at a Christmas event in Penge.

The sled was built by members of Men in Sheds Penge which provides a meeting place and workshop to men over the age of 55.

It was displayed at the Pengemas event this weekend in the High Street.

Project coordinator Jon-Paul Mountford said: “Everybody was absolutely over the moon with it. There was nothing but positive responses.

“There was a picture on Facebook and it got over 200 likes.

“People had nothing but good things to say about it. Everyone was very impressed by it.

“People from Beckenham came over and were asking if we could build one for them next year.

“The Mayor Kathy Bance, she came along, and said she had not seen anything like it anywhere else in the borough. She was full of accolades for it. It was exceptionally well received.”

The sled took around 15 to 20 people four weeks to build. The work was shared out between members.

Mr Mountford said: “They thoroughly enjoyed it, they all came together as a team. It was such a big project, by the time it was built it was about ten-foot-long and the workshop is only 14 feet. "There wasn’t room to do anything else so everybody had to work on the same project!

“It was a real galvanising force, they all came together to work on it. They thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s something different.”
