Free trees are being given away by Bromley council.

As part of the Free Trees Programme the council will give trees to community groups, schools or religious groups to plant in their grounds.

The borough has one of the largest tree stocks in London with 36,000 trees planted in the streets and up to a further 24,500 planted in parks.

The scheme’s aim is to make Bromley even greener and is in conjunction with the Lord Mayor’s office.

Each 60cm tree is supplied with a cane and protective planting spiral.

15 species are up for grabs ranging from field maple, common crab apple, goat willow, mountain ash and bird cherry.

Groups with a suitable space can take a hornbeam, silver birch, English oak, wild cherry or green beech.

Wildlife and shrubs packs are available comprising five each of hazel, dog rose, common privet, grey willow and common dog wood trees.

Whether you just want one or two specimen trees or wish to plant a small coppice please email csc@bromley.gov.uk or ring 0300 303 8658 for further details.

Allocation of the trees will be subject to availability.
