There are all sorts of animals in Bromley. Many of them are nothing out of the ordinary like foxes, squirrels and garden birds.

But there are more surprising animals wandering around.

Grace Flint, 84, of Pinewood Drive, Orpington was taking out her bins yesterday morning when she noticed something strange.

A tiny tortoise had wondered into her garden.

Ms Flint called her daughter Lindsay Bailey who went over to deal with the reptilian visitor.

Ms Bailey went knocking on doors, trying to find out if anybody owned the tortoise.

But it didn’t belong to anybody she spoke to. Ms Bailey put the tortoise in a box and took it to her house.

She said: “It’s tiny, probably only about three inches across. I’ve never seen such a tiny tortoise and I didn’t want it to get trodden on or run over.

“I love all animals and it looked so small and defenceless. I’m worried about it, I just want to find its owner.”

Ms Bailey has posted on Facebook group Orpington Gossip in the hope the owner will come forward and take the tortoise home.

If nobody claims the tortoise she will give it to a reptile rescue centre as she has a dog and can’t take in another pet.

Anybody who has information on who owns the tortoise should email Ms Bailey on: lindsay_bailey@ntlworld.com.
