An 'infestation' of flies was found in a Toby Carvery in Bromley by food hygiene inspectors.
The restaurant, in Bromley Common, was inspected by the council’s food safety team on August 4.
Inspectors rate establishments out of five options, from zero - meaning 'urgent improvement necessary' - to five, meaning 'very good'.
Toby Carvery was given a one out of five in the inspection.
The inspector said: “There were fruit flies in the raw food preparation area of the kitchen.
“These pests can carry food poisoning bacteria and can contaminate food and food surfaces that they land on.
“Black ants were also seen on the tiled wall in the dishwasher area.”
The report, seen by News Shopper, also said there was a build-up of sludge in two parts of the kitchen.
The inspector said: “The drain channel in the floor by the potato peeler/rumbler was blocked with sludge it was not included on the cleaning schedule.
“The drain smelt and was probably partly to blame for a fruit fly infestation in the kitchen.”
Sludge was also building up in the gap between the dishwasher canopy and the metal back plate of the machine, according to inspectors.
The restaurant made other mistakes.
The mat between the kitchen and servery/carvery area was covered in a thick layer of grease.
Ovens and grills in the kitchen were ‘greasy and full of burnt fat and food debris’ and the sinks where salad and other vegetables were being washed were dirty.
The restaurant has a 3.5 rating on TripAdvisor.
A spokeswoman from Toby Carvery said: “We’re extremely disappointed by the reduction in our food hygiene rating.
“We are working to ensure the issues raised are corrected.
“Following the inspection a thorough clean of the business was completed, retraining has been given to the kitchen team and a new manager has now joined the business too.
“We will continue to closely monitor standards and want to reassure our guests that we have taken the matter very seriously.”
