A rogue barbers has been caught fly-tipping bags containing hair and paper towels on a residential road in Bromley.

Thirteen bags of rubbish were found in Ravensbourne Road, five of which contained human hair and other items that linked them with Rui’s Barbers, of Bromley High Street,

Emine Mustafa pleaded guilty at Bromley Magistrates’ Court, on behalf of Mel and Jem Ltd - the company owning Rui’s Barbers - to offences under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Magistrates issued a fine of £400 and ordered £300 costs to be paid.

Councillor Colin Smith, Bromley's executive councillor for environment, said: “It is always disappointing to discover a local business allowing themselves to be embarrassed in this manner, but there really is absolutely no excuse for such anti-social and disrespectful behaviour to other taxpayers.

“Others minded to take a chance and ignore the rules really do need to understand that the council’s campaign against this sort of behaviour is continually being ratcheted up and that it is only a question of when rather than if you get caught too.

“When that happens and where the evidence permits, a prosecution will inevitably follow as part of the ongoing crackdown.

“There are so many authorised business waste disposal operators locally to choose from, including the council itself, all offering good, reliable, value for money services which collect and dispose of waste legally from their client’s door, that the message really is simple. Please, do everybody a favour and use one."

As part its ‘we’re watching you’ campaign, the council will use CCTV and stop-and-search operations to combat illegal waste disposal.
