A supermarket security guard was taken to hospital after being attacked by three suspected shoplifters.

Police in Bromley received "a number of calls" at about 6.40pm yesterday (August 3) after reports of a group of people fighting near Tesco in Homesdale Road.

Three men, who were believed to be shoplifting, became aggressive when they were confronted by staff, a spokesman for the Met Police said.

The suspects fled the scene when police arrived but officers were able to detain two of the men.

They were arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm, possessing an offensive weapon, criminal damage and theft.

The third suspect ran towards the railway tracks and has not been found by police.

The London Ambulance Service also attended and took the member of staff to hospital.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
