An award of almost two million pounds has been given to a new museum project in Biggin Hill.

The project will see a new museum open at the site of St George’s RAF Chapel of Remembrance in effort to preserve the area’s history.

The grant for the Biggin Hill Memorial Museum was awarded by the Heritage Lottery Fund to Bromley Council and the Biggin Hill Memorial Museum Trust.

The museum will open in November 2018, 100 years after the end of the First World War.

Battle of Britain veteran Geoffrey Wellum said: “It’s not about medals, it’s not about thank yous but it’s nice to be remembered.

“Because being remembered covers everybody who served and fly under the Battle of Britain and that’s all we ask, to be remembered.”

Biggin Hill is one of Britain’s oldest aerodromes and played an important role in the Second World War and the Battle of Britain as Sir Winston Churchill’s ‘strongest link.’
