A Shortlands primary school has been rated ‘outstanding’ in all areas in their first ever inspection.

Harris Primary Academy Shortlands was given the highest rating in the inspection in April this year after opening three years ago.

The school in Kingswood Road was outstanding in all categories and inspectors said students made rapid progress and had an “exemplary” attitude to learning.

In the report, published Monday , inspectors praised the quality of teaching at the school which was described as “typically outstanding”.

The report stated that pupils are keen to answer challenging questions and “do not give up” when teachers give them more challenging work.

The school was commended for its approach to helping disadvantaged pupils and “ensuring they do not experience inequality”.

Parents and pupils were confident in the safeguarding arrangements in place and inspector’s said they were “effective”.

The only criticism was that “some teachers do not pick up swiftly on the misconceptions of a few less able pupils” and the school was advised to improve in that area, particularly in maths lessons.

Sam French, executive principal of Harris Primary Academy Shortlands, said: “We are delighted that Ofsted recognise the positivity and hard work that characterises our school.

“This ‘outstanding’ rating is a credit to our children and staff and I am incredibly proud we have achieved this in our first ever Ofsted inspection, in just three years since opening the school.

“I would like to thank and congratulate our wonderful pupils, parents and staff who make Harris Primary Academy Shortlands such a special place to learn.”
