Travellers have pitched up in Green Street Green.

Photos posted online show several caravans parked on the grass, and several online complaints have been made to the council.

A resident, who asked to remain anonymous, spotted the camp as he drove past.

He said: "“This time it looks very organised. I’ve never seen so many caravans. It must be people phoning other groups and the other groups have converged.

“There are just so many down there.

“It will cause security problems for local shops and residents.

“It’s not a desirable thing to have on your doorstep, with the disruption and mess that will be left.

“As a taxpayer, I know the local council will go and clean it up, and we’re paying them to do that."

One report submitted anonymously on the Fix My Street website, where residents can highlight issues for the council to resolve, said that the caravans are blocking the green and horses are roaming free.

The report said: "Public access to the recreational green is blocked by various hazards, caravans, vehicles and horses.

"Will the council remove these hazards so that the local residents can make use of the green for its intended use.

"My son and I would like to go and play some football, these hazards are blocking the use of the green.

"Can the council insure that the green is clear of these hazards as a priority."

Another report said: "Travellers are still on the green. There are also horses roaming free."

Councillor Colin Smith, executive councillor for environment said: “As soon as we become aware of any illegal encampment, robust action will be taken to remove it.

"We are working with the Police in this regard, who have issued a section 61 notice at this site, which requires the travellers to leave.

"We will continue to monitor activities into the future and will take further action as needed.”
