A Scout hut has come up for sale in Orpington the same day as the scouting network announced they have a record-long waiting list of kids wanting to get involved.

1st Ramsden Scout Group occupied the hut for over 40 years in Brow Crescent before they folded in 2008.

The Scout hut is of a wooden construction and according to Clive Emerson the auctioneers, might have a variety of future uses.

The Scouts waiting list is 51,000, which they say is the highest it has ever been.

A statement on the Scout's website said: “On the one hand, it’s wonderful to see how many young people are keen to join in the fun and how popular the movement is, but on the other hand, it means there are still a lot of young people currently missing out.

“Despite having the largest number of volunteers we’ve ever had, the number of young people waiting to join has continued to grow.”

Now, the land has come up for sale at a guide price of £160-170,000.

Ben Snelling, auctioneer, said: “This is one of many lots in the area that we are offering.

“Investors and developers will spot the potential in what is a predominantly residential area.

“The other lots offer potential and many are small plots of land that investors will be interested in.”

This next sale takes place on Tuesday May 2 at The Clive Emson Conference Centre in Detling, Maidstone, beginning at 11am.
