A patient at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) has alleged that the conditions on her ward were “unbearable”.

The woman, 39, who wishes to remain anonymous, stayed in the Farnborough hospital for two weeks while waiting for a gall bladder operation and alleges that the lavatories were “filthy” with “faeces and urine” all over the toilet bowl.

She said that patients were forced to use a bucket instead of the toilet.

The patient said she was told to follow a low-fat diet but alleged no low-fat options were available and she was forced to buy her own food.

She also alleges she was given painkillers she is allergic to.

With regard to going back to the hospital she said: “It’s scary because you’ve got to go back in and go through it all again.

“It’s disgusting up there.”

A spokesperson for King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Princess Royal University Hospital, said: “We are sorry that Ms [X] is unhappy with aspects of her care at the Princess Royal University Hospital.

“It appears there was a miscommunication about Ms [X]’s operation date and we have been in touch with her to resolve it.

“We cater for a wide range of dietary requirements.

“When the catering manager was alerted to Ms [X]’s needs, they explained the meal options available that would meet her dietary requirements.

“Toilets are cleaned on a regular basis across the hospital and we currently have a programme of enhanced cleaning in place.

“We urge anyone who has concerns about cleanliness to alert a senior nurse or manager so that additional cleaning can be carried out without delay.”

The woman has been discharged from the hospital but is still waiting for her operation.

She has lodged a formal complaint with the hospital.
