All wards at the Princess Royal University hospital are still closed after an outbreak of Norovirus.

Visiting in adult wards is not permitted, while visiting in the children's ward is restricted to parents, guardians and grandparents and the maternity ward is restricted to birth partners only.

The wards have been closed since last Monday (November 14) due to cases of the winter vomiting bug in the hospital and in the community.

The symptoms of the contagious bug include suddenly feeling sick, projectile vomiting, and diarrhoea, according to the NHS website.

In a statement posted on the PRUH website it says: "Our top priority is the safety and wellbeing of all patients.

"There are still a small number of inpatients with Norovirus and we know there are cases in the community. Because of this, the hospital remains closed to visitors.

"We appreciate this is a difficult time for relatives and friends of patients, who understandably want to visit their loved ones, but please bear with us while we try to control the spread of Norovirus."

Visitors are being allowed on to the wards in 'exceptional circumstances', such as if a close relative is critically ill, with the permission of doctors.

People with outpatient appointments can attend the hospital as normal but anyone scheduled to have an operation should call ahead to confirm attendence.

Women due to give birth at the hosital can attend as normal, although infant feeding parent education classes and Oasis Birth Unity tours have been postponed.

The Accident and Emergency department is open.
