Hundreds of animals may have to be put down if an animal sanctuary is forced off their Westerham site by their landlord, say volunteers.

Beaver Water World, who have been rescuing animals for 25 years, are based at Waylands Farm in Approach lane, and is home to a variety of reptiles, birds and mammals such as lemurs and meerkats.

They have reportedly been told they will have to vacate the site by December 15 and unless they can find new homes for the animals, they might have to be euthanised.

On a Go Fund Me page, which was set up to raise money for a new site and currently has raised almost £800 of its £500,000 target, the charity state: “We would all like to say a HUGE Thank You on behalf of all the animals at Beaver Water World who without your support would have had to be put down.

“To all our visitors and past and present staff who have supported us for all these years.

“Without you, our charity could not have evolved into the huge amazing family (human and animal) environment that it now is.”

On their website they say that they have rescued and rehabilitated around 4500 animals over the past 15 years, and are currently rescuing around 500 per year.

On their website they have written: “As a Charity it is not only about what we do to help & rescue animals, but what service we provide for people.

"People have a responsibility to each other, by volunteering communities become stronger and situations improve.

"Our aim is to educate both adults & young people on the unsuitability of certain species as pets and encourage respect for all animals and reptiles."

In the past they have rehomed an alligator called Big Boy, famous for his role in the James Bond film ‘Live and Let Die’.

They also provide educational outreach and placements for nearby colleges, which will have to be cut short if they are evicted as planned.

The landlords, Beaver Branch Enterprises, were unavailable for comment.
