A Bromley robber who stole £6,000 from an elderly woman in a ‘horrifying ordeal’ has been jailed for eight years.

The court heard that on February 16 Richard Henry, 49, of Chingley Close knocked on the victim's door and barged past her to search the house and pushed her over when she asked him to leave.

He stole a handbag and £6,000 in cash before pushing the victim, who is in her 90s, to the ground again.

Henry then left the scene in a hire vehicle despite being disqualified from driving.

While officers were taking details from the victim, a report was received which stated her passport had been found in Southend Road, Beckenham.

Officers were able to track Henry’s movements using cameras and tracking software that had been fitted to the vehicle he was using.

Both CCTV cameras and the vehicle’s software placed him near the scene of the crime and also in the Bromley area.

Officers went on to execute a warrant at his property where he was arrested.

Detective Constable Bob Fursey, the investigating officer for this case, said:"Henry targeted a very vulnerable woman and subjected her to a horrifying ordeal.

"Despite her frailty, he assaulted her inside her own home and robbed her of a significant amount of money.

"She was left shaken and extremely upset and it is fortunate that she was not seriously injured.

"Despite the fear she naturally felt, she had the courage to speak out against this man and provide us with vital information.

"I am grateful for the support she has given to this investigation."

Henry was found guilty at Maidstone Crown Court and was sentenced to eight years in prison today (September 22).

As well as his sentence for robbery, Henry was issued with a five-year driving ban, which will start upon his release from prison.

He pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and received a four-month sentence for the offence, which will be served concurrently to the robbery sentence.
