The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir are set to perform at this Saturday’s FA Cup final at Wembley, when Crystal Palace and Manchester United go head to head for the title.

The NHS workers, who beat Justin Bieber to last year’s Christmas number one, will also collaborate with Tinie Tempah in front of 90,000 football fans.

Singing the traditional FA Cup Final anthem Abide With Me before kick-off, choir co-ordinator Caroline Smith said they’re “thrilled to be performing such an emotional song”.

The child physiotherapist said: “Our goal is to celebrate the NHS and all its wonderful staff so it is amazing to be able to do this to such a wide audience.

“Abide With Me really stirs the crowd, not only in the stadium of course but the millions watching on TV around the world.

“It’s been linked to the F.A Cup Final for many years and we follow a list of very talented people who have been given this rare privilege.”

The choir, made up of staff including physiotherapists, nurses, porters, doctors, chaplains and administrators, claimed the coveted Christmas Number 1 spot with their single A Bridge Over You and are now set to release their debut album on June 24.

The album, entitled Something Inside So Strong, was recorded by choir members in their own time.

All royalties earned by the choir through the album will be paid into Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust’s charitable funds, which are used to enhance patients experience and staff working lives.
