A man from Petts Wood claims he was labelled a terrorist and forced out of a restaurant in Bromley after making complaints about apparent food hygiene violations.

Paul Nui, 40, who lives in Beijing but grew up in Petts Wood, went to Yo! Sushi in intu Bromley several times while back in the UK following his father’s death.

He claims he saw several food hygiene violations, such as cross-contamination between raw and cooked food and chefs scratching themselves while cooking. but was harassed by staff after making a complaint.

Mr Nui said: “I sat down and had a meal and noticed there was some bad food hygiene.”

He mentioned the alleged violations to restaurant staff, but continued with his meal.

But he claims when he tried to return the day after he was surrounded by security who allegedly said he was acting suspiciously.

Mr Nui said: “They said I could be a terrorist, they said I was acting suspiciously and making the staff uncomfortable.

"I’m a guy in a business suit on a mobile phone, I just continued with my meal and then left and I complained to head office.”

Mr Nui returned to the restaurant with friends and family the following day.

He said: “I said I was planning on eating there with friends and family but the manager said none of the staff are going to serve you, you are making the staff uncomfortable, she said you need to leave now and security came and surrounded me again."

Mr Nui said although he had spotted some food hygiene issues he continued to dine at the restaurant and avoided foods he alleges he saw being handled unsafely.

He said: “If I had that much of a problem with the food hygiene, why would I eat there.”

The manager has since left the company.

Mr Nui said: “I spoke to the temporary guy and he can’t make no sense of it, unless she wanted to tarnish the name of the company.”

In a written response to Mr Nui’s complaint, seen by News Shopper, the operations manager apologised and said she was "utterly appalled" with the way he was treated.

However a spokesman for Yo! Sushi said: “Mr Nui is known to our team as he has eaten with us on numerous occasions. He is also known to the security team at the centre who have asked him on several occasions to refrain from filming around the centre.

“As we have outlined to him directly we work to strict food hygiene and handling guidelines with all our staff and take our high standards extremely seriously.”
