A man was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after being hit by a train at West Wickham station. 

The man, 52, was hit last night (January 28) at around 4pm.

He sustained life-threatening injuries. 

British Transport Police (BTP) officers, paramedics from the London Ambulance Service (LAS) and Met Police officers quickly attended the scene. 

MORE TOP STORIES The LAS sent numerous resources, including HART, a fast responder, an incident response officer, HEMS, as well as London's Air Ambulance. 

They took the man to the Royal London Hospital by air. 

He is said to be in a critical but stable condition. 

A BTP spokesman said: "The incident is not being treated as suspicious and the man’s family have been informed.”

The line between Elmers End and Hayes was blocked temporarily blocked, with services operating an alternative route and tickets accepted on buses. 

There were still some delays and alterations while trains resumed a normal service, but were up and running later that evening.
