Some 1,500 primary school children undeterred by the cold, wintry weather battled it out in a Crystal Palace cross country event supported by British athletes.
Fastest British female sprinter of all time Dina Asher-Smith, from Orpington, and Olympian marathon runner Scott Overall cheered on children from 50 Bromley borough primary schools, who paced through the mud at Crystal Palace Park.
The Bromley Primary Schools’ Cross Country Competition for children aged seven to 11, thought to be the UK’s largest event of its kind, is celebrating its 26th year.
The event is organised by volunteers with support from Blackheath and Bromley Harriers Athletics Club and its junior association, The Bees Academy.
Borough primary PE advisor, Giles Platt, said: “Given the harsh weather conditions, all those children who took part and represented their schools should feel extremely proud of their efforts.

“I would also like to single out the incredible amount of work undertaken by committee members and marshals whose voluntary assistance ensured that the event was a success on the day.”
