A "callous thief" who stole a poppy collection tin from a Beckenham restaurant on Remembrance Sunday has been sentenced to 14 weeks behind bars.

David Yeulett, 38, was sitting at the bar alone in French eatery La Rascasse on Beckenham High Street before he made off with the tin which contained around £40.

Police released still images from the restaurant's CCTV footage in a bid to catch the suspect.

Danielle Robinson, an assistant manager at the restaurant who was working on the night of the theft (November 8), checked the CCTV after noticing the tin was missing when someone wanted to buy a poppy.

She told News Shopper: "You see him put it inside his jacket and walk out.

"I just think it’s ridiculous - that is charity. You can’t take from someone’s charity. And it happened on Remembrance Sunday.

"It has angered everyone that was working."
