A Welling man has been arrested and bailed after attempting to punch the Crystal Palace mascot – Kayla, an American bald eagle.

The 34-year-old has been detained on suspicion of violent disorder and attempted criminal damage by police investigating fan trouble during the Crystal Palace vs Charlton derby on September 24.

He was taken to a south London police station, before being bailed until mid-January.

When the bald eagle is not attending Crystal Palace games, her home is at wildlife park Eagle Heights in Eynsford.

Eleven others have been arrested and bailed in connection with the disorder both inside and outside the ground during the match at Selhurst Park.

A 20-year-old man, from Tower Hamlets, has been charged with assault by beating.
