A ‘dangerous’ man from Bromley has been jailed for 15 years after raping a woman at knifepoint.

Malcolm Haben, 63, pleaded guilty to two counts of rape, sexual assault, and actual bodily harm at Woolwich Crown Court yesterday (October 8).

Haben, of Tristram Road, was renting a room in the same house as his 22-year-old victim.

She had previously avoided his attempts to engage her in conversation, and in the days leading up to the attack reported his volatile behaviour to their landlord.

Haben was told to leave the house.

He threatened to kill her before assaulting and raping her.

After her ordeal she managed to escape and ran into the street.

A member of the public helped her and phoned the police.

Haben was arrested and subsequently charged.

Detective Constable Liz McAvoy, from the Met's sexual offences exploitation and child abuse command, said: "Despite her traumatic ordeal the victim had the strength and determination to come forward and support of the police investigation.

"Haben is obviously a dangerous individual and the sentence reflects this."
