The death of a man in his 30s in Sydenham Hill on Friday evening (August 21) is still being treated as unexplained.

Metropolitan Police officers were called at around 8pm to reports of an unresponsive man found in the bushes.

When paramedics from the London Ambulance Service arrived they pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Officers found a firearm nearby and cordoned off the road whilst forensic experts combed the area.

A post mortem examination at Greenwich Mortuary was carried on Sunday (August 23) and has confirmed that the man died from a gunshot wound.

Next of kin have been informed but formal identification awaits.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses and information into the 'unexplained' death.

Officers from Southwark CID are investigating alongside colleagues from the Homicide and Major Crime Command.

A Met Police spokesman said enquiries continue and there have been no arrests.
