MORE TOP STORIES The last walnut tree prior to demolition was finally felled on Wednesday (August 19), and hundreds gathered to watch European champion chain saw artist Will Lee carve the trunk.
Mr Lee created a new piece – a bench flanked by owls - which is set to be a landmark in the centre.
The old Walnut tree has been replaced a by a new tree which will stand outside the new development.
The carving was part of a series of family fun days one of which was nicknamed the ‘Staycation’.
The three day free extravaganza included donkey rides, face painters, arts and crafts and children’s entertainers.
There was also a magical wishing tree where one child wished to be famous on Youtube and another wished for a cat with no fur.
