A Bromley sports project has scooped a national trophy for improving the lives of young people in disadvantaged communities across the borough.
MyFuture, run by social enterprise Mytime Active, won The Shaping Young Lives category at the 2015 ukactive Flame Awards – described as the Oscars of the health and fitness sector.
The scheme provides free, weekly sports activities for young people in Orpington and the Cray Valley wards, which are amongst the 20 per cent most deprived areas in England.
Alex King, who lives on the Ramsden Estate in Orpington, joined the project seven years ago before training in football coaching and becoming employed as MyFuture’s lead coach.

The 22-year-old said: “Since I have made it as a qualified football coach I have continued to come back to the estates and help pass on some of my knowledge to the rest of the kids.
“I do coaching sessions on the Ramsden Estate. It’s where I’ve lived all my life and it’s in my heart really.”
