Met Police are investigating after a woman was reportedly raped in a Chislehurst church graveyard last week.

The Church of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, opposite Sainsbury's on the High Street, has been cordoned off to the public since before 6.30pm on Friday (June 26).

The rape is alleged to have happened in the early hours of Thursday morning - and was reported to police the following afternoon.

News Shopper:

A Met Police spokesman said: "Police are investigating the rape of a woman at around 05:30hrs on Thursday, 25 June, in the graveyard of a church off High Street, Chislehurst.

"The rape was reported to police the following afternoon.

"Officers from the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command are investigating.

"The suspect is a man. Police are not releasing a description at this stage."

News Shopper:

Chislehurst resident Jodi West said: "It's been closed off since last night, I came home from work about 6.30pm and it was closed off then.

"It's very worrying, especially living so close. Really hope it's nothing too serious."

The church is closed from all three accessing roads, with police officers asking people to walk around.
