A Paralympian opened a new physiotherapy centre for disabled children after tireless fundraising by a West Wickham youngster.

David Weir CBE officially opened the Wooden Spoon Spider Therapy Room at the Freddie Farmer Foundation physiotherapy centre.

The bespoke centre, based off Elliot Road, opened earlier this year after a three year fundraising campaign.

Raising more than £400,000 10-year-old Freddie Farmer, from Robins Grove, was awarded the Point of Light award from Prime Minister David Cameron.

The six time gold medalist winner visited the centre earlier this month to unveil the Wooden Spoon Spider Therapy Room.

Wooden Spoon, a children’s rugby charity, donated £25,000 towards the therapy room.

MORE TOP STORIES It features state of the art equipment including two Universal Exercise Units (UEUs), otherwise known as the ‘spider’, which helps mobility for children with cerebral palsy such as Freddie.

The centre’s charity officer, Karen Smith, said: “It is very exciting for everyone involved with the charity to finally see the new centre open.

“We hope to help many more disabled children to reach their full potential and to benefit from the intensive physiotherapy programmes that we run here from our new home in Bromley.”
