Figures released show some Bromley councillors missing more than a quarter of meetings.

Attendance figures for June 2014 to May 2015 show five councillors missing 25 percent or more of formal meetings.

The numbers relate to meetings of the council, the executive, committees, sub-committees and working groups.

Out of all 60 elected councillors, Conservative councillor Eric Bosshard, who represents Chislehurst, has the lowest attendance with 71 per cent.

Coun Bosshard sits on the development control committee, the pensions investment sub-committee and the council.

He said: "Very simply I'm busy business-wise and that's taken up a lot of time. This is why I've had to miss more meetings than I would have liked to.

"This is why I've stepped down as the chair of the executive resources committee. I’ve done 100 meetings a year for the past three years.

"I can't juggle 100 council meetings and have an increase in business meetings.

"It will hopefully be higher next year; there were a number of meetings I just couldn't get to."

Coun Bosshard was the chair of the executive resources committee for five years prior to stepping down.

MORE TOP STORIES The next lowest is Conservative councillor Judi Ellis, who represents Cray Valley West, who has an attendance rate of 72 per cent.

But some councillors managed to attend 100 per cent of meetings.

West Wickham Tory councillor Tom Philpott, Cray Valley East's Conservative councillor Chris Pierce and Michael Rutherford, a Tory councillor representing Bromley Town, all have an unblemished attendance record.

Out of all those with 100 per cent attendance, Conservative councillor Simon Fawthrop has the highest number of meetings of all attended at 31, and sat in one other meeting as a substitute.

Representing Petts Wood and Knoll, the chairman of the executive and resources policy development and scrutiny committee said: "It's a bit of luck because if something crops up and I have go I have to miss a meeting, it happens.

"But overall across the parties most of their attendance is in the 80s [per cent]. I think that's where the credit lies.

"This year I'm going to be far busier but I hope to be 100 per cent."

Leader of the council Coun Stephen Carr, who represents Bromley Common and Keston, has the joint sixth worst attendance at 76 per cent.

Bromley Council was contacted for a comment.
