The daughter of 92-year-old Lilian Tidy from Bromley has paid tribute to her late mother who volunteered with the Queen in WWII

A final farewell will be said tomorrow (April 24) for Lilian Tidy, of Mosslea Road, Bromley, after passing away earlier this year.

The 92-year-old served in the Women's Volunteer Services throughout World War II alongside the Queen.

MORE TOP STORIES Mrs Tidy's daughter, Val Tidy, 56, of Widerton Road, Sydenham, said: "She used to tell the story of how she had never driven but was working on a tank while in the army and got in the tank and took it around for a ride."

She married her husband Richard Tidy, who passed away in 2007, the same year the Queen married and they received a letter of congratulations from her on their 60th anniversary.

Ms Tidy said: "She met my Dad when they were only about 12-13, a gang of friends used to go around together and they all married each other.”

The childhood friends, who had three children and three grandchildren, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary the year Mr Tidy passed away.

Ms Tidy said: "We had a wishing well built in the front garden of the home, Dad's ashes went in there.

"Tomorrow we are putting Mum's ashes in there so she can go back to nagging him."

Mrs Tidy's daughter says she will remember her Mother for her wit, adding: "She had a good sense of humour, if a young man came around she would put on her little old lady act to try and get him to help her with her bags - but only if he was young and good looking."

For the last five years Mrs Tidy was an active member of the Pisces swimming club based at The Spa, Beckenham.

Following her death, mourners raised £345 for St. Christopher's hospice, and Ms Tidy added anyone wishing to make donations should make them out to the charity.

Ms Tidy said: "They were really good, they would go up to her room and you'd just hear hoots of laughter all the time.

“She was an amazing lady I was proud to call Mum.”
