Police saved the life of a man found hanging at a home in Grove Park in the early hours of Monday morning.
Lewisham officers were called to reports of a disturbance at the address at around 1.30am but when they arrived found a man, in his 30s, hanging.
They cut him down and administered CPR and first aid until the London Ambulance Service arrived.
Paramedics took the man to a south London hospital.
His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Lewisham borough commander Chief Superintendent Kate Halpin said: "The officers who attended this address in the early hours were called as a result of a disturbance and did not anticipate finding the sight of a man hanging.
“Thanks to their quick thinking they were able to cut him down and have undoubtedly saved his life.”
Chief Supt Halpin said she believed the officers’ actions merited formal recognition.
