The Crystal Palace Overground Festival is set to include never before seen performances after receiving nearly £10,000 in Lottery funding.

The free arts and culture festival, which takes place from June 24 – 28 in Crystal Palace’s Westow Park, will feature a new project focussed on the area’s history.

‘Through The Crystal Palace – A Prism into the Past’ will be showcased on the last day of the festival after £9,900 was awarded from the Heritage Lottery Fund yesterday (April 20).

MORE TOP STORIES 20 local youngsters will work with Emergency Exit Arts to create and perform a piece for 500 festival goers, drawing on from their research at the London Metropolitan Archives.

It will be performed as part of Vintage up the Palace, a heritage themed event at the four day festival, which welcomed more than 6,000 people last year.

A digital exhibition will also be created and hosted on the festival website.

The festival’s director and volunteer co-ordinator, Noreen Meehan, said: “We are thrilled to have received the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund.

“We are confident the project will lead many young people to take pride in their Crystal Palace heritage, improve their educational outcomes by learning research and archiving skills and increase their self-confidence through their presentation performance at the 2015 festival.”
