A celebrity chef duo was on hand to help open Bromley College’s brand new restaurant.

Brothers Chris and James Tanner joined forces with former education secretary Lord Baker to sample the crème de la crème of student talent.

The new student-led restaurant, which is open to the public, officially welcomed diners last Thursday (February 26).

Students aged 14-19 from Bromley College’s Hospitality, Food and Enterprise Career College will cook and serve the cuisine.

Chefs Chris and James Tanner said: "Students studying here will be well equipped with the skills and aptitude needed to succeed in their future career.

“Bromley College is leading the way with its innovative Career College, which will benefit both the students and the hospitality industry as a whole."

On the day the menu boasted an impressive variety of dishes, including Moroccan spiced lamb meatballs, beef rendang curry, grilled mackerel and parmesan and thyme gnocchi.

For those with a sweeter tooth mini triple chocolate brownie, lemon meringue tarts and caramel choux buns were also served.

Lord Baker, former education secretary and founder of the Career Colleges Trust, said: "BR6 provides students with the chance to understand the ins and outs of running a working restaurant – not just how to prepare the food.

"This combination of practical, academic and enterprise skills sum up the Career College ethos and I am very impressed with what Bromley College is doing."

The restaurant is now open for bookings on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with a staggered opening to begin with.

Principal of Bromley College, Mrs Sam Parrett, added: "BR6 is also very important for the local community.

“When Bromley College merged with Orpington College in 2011, we made a commitment to be part of the regeneration of Orpington Town Centre by developing a catering and hospitality area.

"BR6 reflects this pledge and it is a centrepiece for both our Career College and the community as a whole."
