An Orpington business claims sales are still going through at 1p after the glitch on retailer giant Amazon.

A third party software malfunction by RepricerExpress caused countless items to be listed as just 1p on Friday December 12.

Alistair Ridley, co-founder of Get Paid in Orpington High Street, spoke out over the effect it had on business - yet items were still being sold for ridiculously low prices yesterday.

After one customer managed to bag more than £5,000 worth of gear for just 5p, the shop pulled out all the stops to get it back.

Mr Ridley, 27, said: "We called them [Amazon] and told them to tell the couriers to stop it. They did and they returned the stock to their warehouse - and were sold again for 1p."

He added their initial glee of getting the order stopped then turned to dismay after it was shipped back out for the same price.

He claims the shop is now losing potential sales as the same stock is stuck in this cycle.

With Christmas their busiest time, he said sales were nowhere near what they were expecting.

He said: "We're losing sales; we had about £3-5,000 last week. Last weekend we had about 500 orders, this week we've had about 10.

"It's just gutting that this is our best time of year, we pretty much rely on the Christmas rush to get us through the year. We've only got one week left.

"If this carries on we will have lost around £30,000 with of sales"

He added that their seller rating online had plummeted, going from 'excellent' to 'poor' in the wake of the mistake.

He said: "All the cancellations mean we have a bad rating now, we had a great record before.

"We don't even appear high in the listings any more as we've exceeded the acceptable limit.

"So even if we do get refunded we won't be able to shift the stock."

He renewed his calls for sellers to be refunded, but also for their ratings to be restored.

He added sadly: "We're just one of many, a drop in the ocean."

A spokesman for Amazon said earlier in the week: "We are aware that a number of Marketplace sellers listed incorrect prices for a short period of time as a result of the third party software they use to price their items on Amazon.co.uk.

"We responded quickly and were able to cancel the vast majority of orders placed on these affected items immediately and no costs or fees will be incurred by sellers for these cancelled orders.

"We are now reviewing the small number of orders that were processed and will be reaching out to any affected sellers directly."
