A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a shooting in Orpington.

Officers arrested a man at an address in Biggin Hill yesterday (December 10) after executing a warrant.

The 29-year-old has been released on bail until January 20 pending further investigation.

Emergency services were called to Kedleston Drive at 7.08pm last Friday (December 5) after two shots were fired at a man as he reversed his car from his driveway with his two sons inside.

Neighbour Liam Brophy, 63, drove the victim, who is in his 30s, to the Princess Royal University Hospital in Farnborough before an ambulance crew arrived.

Mr Brophy told News Shopper: “I was in the utility room at the back of my house with the door open when I heard two almighty bangs. It sounded like a gas explosion.

“It went off in very quick succession. I rushed out and my neighbour’s car was halfway across the driveway and he had been shot straight through the driver side window.

“The shots had blown a hole in the window 10 to 12 inches in diameter. I’ve never heard a gun so loud.”

Mr Brophy said the victim, whose two young sons sat in the back of the car, managed to climb out and tried to ring an ambulance before neighbours came to his aid.

He added: “He was slumped against a bush. Blood was pouring everywhere and after about five minutes of waiting for the ambulance I got my car and took him to hospital.

“He was wearing a bomber jacket and he didn’t dare take it off. I was worried for his safety and wanted to get him to hospital very quickly.

“The doctors looked after him straight away. I’m just thankful he is OK.”

A Met Police spokesman said the victim was treated for minor injuries and was discharged from hospital.

Detectives from the Trident Gang Crime Command continue to investigate.
