A campaign has kicked off in Bromley to get pop star Sonia back in the charts this Christmas.

The singer, 43, hit the top spot with You’ll Never Stop Me From Loving You in 1989 and this year will play the Good Fairy in the Churchill Theatre’s pantomime, Sleeping Beauty.

This year’s Bromley panto also features Marc Baylis, who is currently playing murderer Rob Donovan on Coronation Street, Pop Idol Zoe Birkett and children’s TV star Jamie Rickers.

The team at the Churchill, who count themselves as big 80s fans, are behind the fledgling Facebook campaign called Sonia For Christmas Number One - 2014.

The theatre’s marketing manager Jamie Leadbeatter said: “When we had Sonia cast in panto we were listening to some of her songs and came to the conclusion that ‘Never Stop Me From Loving you’ is one of the best 80s songs and it’s been stuck in our heads for weeks!

“Its 25 years since it was released – so we thought it would be great to get it back in the charts again, especially as she is with us over Christmas.”

He added: “We have started a Facebook campaign and it is very early days, but we would love to see the song go into the charts again.

“It would be a huge bonus and amazing if it were to go top 10 and contend for the Christmas number one spot.”

Even if you don’t see Sonia in the charts this Christmas, you can see her in Sleeping Beauty at the Churchill from November 28 to January 4. Go to atgtickets.com/bromley
