A 71-year-old man was hit over the head twice with a metal bar and stabbed in the leg by two Downham robbers on his way into his house, family members say.
Police were called at around 12.09am on October 25 to reports of the robbery in Chingley Road.
According to the man;s family, he had let himself in through a locked communal door and was then set upon by two men.
A spokesman for the Met Police said: "At this early stage it is believed two males approached the victim from behind and hit him over the head with an object.
"The suspects then grabbed the victim’s chain from around his neck and his bracelet from his wrist, pushed him into bushes and ran off."
Family say the man is still in hospital and the chain featured a representation of Jesus.
