A local health group is trying to get Bromley’s 40,000 smokers to take part in ‘Stoptober’ this month.

Bromley Healthcare’s Smokefree Bromley team is on the high street today (Oct 1) to promote and launch the campaign to residents.

Stoptober is a nationwide NHS scheme that challenges smokers to kick the habit and to make a start by giving up for 28 days.

The NHS says smokers who give up over the time period are "five times more likely to quite for good".

Smokefree Bromley manager Sareena Gill said "giving up cigarettes is the single biggest thing they can do to improve their health."

She added residents can pop down for free advice from specialists and can sign up to support sessions across the borough.
