Art enthusiasts sharpened their pencils and fired up their creative engines as the Big Draw Festival returned to Chislehurst on Saturday (September 27).

More than 1,000 people gathered on Chislehurst Common, off Manor Park Road to celebrate the festival’s 11th birthday.

Budding artists designed jet propelled rockets, built spaghetti and marshmallow towers and sculpted clay dinosaurs in honour of this year’s theme, the Art in Science.

With 25 activities to choose from, visitors also had the chance to try their hand at calligraphy or concoct their own sherbet sweets.

Organiser Sarah Watkins, of Oakleigh Park Avenue, said it was a great opportunity for children and adults to try something new.

The 49-year-old said: “It’s a hard week getting everything ready but it’s always really good fun and a nice, community day out for everyone.

“The kids love it but we try to encourage as many adults to take part too.”
