A leading superintendent on major counter-terrorism operations has joined Bromley police as new deputy borough commander.

Superintendent Parm Sandhu, one of the highest-ranking Asian women in UK policing, was appointed earlier this month.

Ms Sandhu, who joined the Met in 1989, led on the police operation after the murder of Lee Rigby in Woolwich last year.

The mother-of-two also worked with the Home Office setting up forums within the Muslim community to tackle extremism and Islamaphobia, following the 7/7 terrorist attacks.

Ms Sandhu began her career in Limehouse in East London, before moving on to posts in Hackney, Waltham Forest, Forest Gate, Barking and Dagenham, Westminster and Croydon.

After serving as the Olympics Operations Superintendent in 2012, she moved on to the Greenwich borough where she led projects including Safer Neighbourhoods, Operations and Counter Terrorism.

She has won various awards including being recognised by the Queen and the Pope for her services.

Her new responsibilities in Bromley include Operational Policing, Criminal Investigations and Partnerships.
