A new Bromley borough commander will take over this month.

Chief Superintendent Chris Hafford, a keen Charlton fan who joined the Met in 1987, will replace Chief Superintendent Steph Roberts, who is moving on.

Ch Supt Hafford started serving the police in Greenwich and Eltham, and has since served in Tower Hamlets, Southwark and Bexley, all in uniform operational roles.

He also managed criminal investigation department and crime portfolios and has been involved in safer neighbourhoods policing since its inception

He became a chief superintendent this year.

He said: "Although I've never worked in Bromley before, I have spent almost all of my career in south-east London and know the area very well.

"I'm really pleased to be taking over from Steph who has done a tremendous job over the last two years, leading the borough operational command unit (BOCU) through some challenging times and I know she is immensely proud of what our officers and staff have achieved.

"Bromley has an excellent reputation for working in partnership with the community and statutory partners and I'm looking forward to leading the BOCU from the 17th of March."

After two years in the position, Ch Supt Roberts will move to a role as head of the Met Police Service intelligence unit.
