MULTI-MILLION pound redevelopment works are set to start in Bromley North at the end of the month.

The £5.2m scheme encompasses Market Square, High Street North and East Street areas of Bromley town centre.

There will be new pavements, new lights, more trees, new signage and changes made to the pedestrian exit from The Hill car park.

The aim of the scheme is to boost businesses by getting more people to visit the northern part of the High Street.

Portfolio holder for renewal and recreation Councillor Peter Morgan said: "This is fantastic news for the town centre and we are committed to doing all we can to ensure people want to shop, trade and spend time in the town centre in these difficult times.

“This year is already proving to be critical with a number of exciting projects underway that will ultimately drive forward our long term vision to Build a Better Bromley and the competitiveness of our town.

“We will be working closely with traders, residents, motorists and visitors throughout the duration of the project and you can keep an eye on our progress via our dedicated webpage.”

The works are set to start in East Street next Monday (July 29).

East Street will be closed to traffic until November 30 while work is being carried out.

A one lane road closure will be in operation in the northern part of the High Street from August 6 to November 30.

And work will start in Market Square early next year.

The scheme is likely to be completed by Christmas next year, with a complete break in works for the Christmas trading period this year.
