CAMPAIGNERS are hoping to be given le feu vert when they put their case for a bilingual primary school in the borough to government officials next month.

The Bromley Bilingual Primary School team has been invited to an interview about their plan at the Department for Education on March 8.

And if the idea is given the green light the school will open its doors in September next year to children in reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

Nathan Hardman, who is heading the school project, said: “We’re absolutely delighted.

“This is taking BBPS one step closer to becoming a reality for local schoolchildren.

“Getting an interview means the Government views our project as a strong proposal and will explore with us in depth our vision for the school and how we will implement it.”

The school plans to help address the shortage of primary school places and offer the opportunity of bilingual education in English and French from an early age to children in Bromley.

BBPS will be inclusive and children will not need to speak French before they start.

It is being proposed under the Government’s free school initiative by a group of local parents and teachers, supported by CfBT Education Trust.

CfBT is an education charity which is collaborating on a number of other free school projects.

The team still needs to prove there is continuing demand for the school before they go to interview.
