LEWISHAM Hospital campaigners are asking people to put balloons outside their homes on Valentine's Day in a show of support.

The hospital's A&E and maternity are under threat from the Department of Health, and protestors want people who were born there, had children there or who just want to back the campaign, to string some balloons up.

On Friday (Feb 15), there will be a lunchtime rally from 1pm at the war memorial opposite the hospital.

Speakers will include campaigners and Mayor of Lewisham Sir Steve Bullock, who has pledged to legally challenge the plans if Helath Secretary Jeremy Hunt does not back down by February 22.

The council has also set up a Legal Challenge Fund to allow people in the community to contribute to the action.

Donations can be made online.
