A HIGH street clothes company has folded putting 1,000 jobs at risk.

Fashion chain Republic, which has a branch at The Glades in Bromley, is the latest in a line of retail casualties.

Business Ernst and Young is thought to be handling the administration of the stores – there are around 120 across the UK.

Reports suggest Republic has suffered due to recent months of poor trading following consumer pressures and its focus on the north of England - an area particularly badly hit by the recession.

It follows the collapse of HMV, Jessops and Blockbuster which all called in administrators last month.
