NEWS Shopper has obtained figures showing there were 260 violent incidents from pupils towards teachers in Bromley over the last five years.

However there has been a reduction overall and representatives say most occasions concerned pupils with special educational needs.

The number of reports jumped from 49 in 2007 to 92 the following year. The rate subsequently dropped in 2009 to 45 and in 2011 there were only 39 incidents.

A Bromley Council spokesperson said: “The incidents took place over a five year period and mostly occurred within special schools and units for pupils with special educational needs in respect of emotional and behavioural difficulties.”
