Crystal Palace v Charlton derby trouble leads to 10 arrests

Arrests made following trouble at Crystal Palace v Charlton clash Arrests made following trouble at Crystal Palace v Charlton clash

TEN football fans were arrested after trouble broke out during and after Crystal Palace’s game against Charlton on Saturday.

Crystal Palace beat Charlton 2-1 on Saturday at Selhurst Park in a hotly contested south London derby.

Extra police officers were drafted in for the game, some coming from neighbouring boroughs.

During the game, several rows of seats and the toilets in the away end were damaged. Flares were also lit in the away section.

After the match, away fans were held in Park Road by a police cordon while Palace fans made their way home.

About 3,000 Charlton supporters were escorted down Sangley Road towards Norwood Junction.

A minority of troublemakers smashed cars and damaged residents’ property as they made their way home.

Police are investigating the damage that was caused and are urging residents with any information to call 101.

Certainly seems to be a few idiots going to Charlton away games recently trying to give the club a bad name. I wasn't at the Palace game, but I did witness some bad behaviour at the Millwall game. Hopefully these thugs get caught as we've always had a good reputation and don't want it ruined by a few idiots.

Funny that-at the Charlton home match the Charlton and Palace fans walked up from the Valley to the main road, separated by police horses.

No sooner had we reached the main road than the Palace fans began hurling abuse and throwing bins, barriers atc at the police, police horses and Charlton fans.

I was walking back to my car with my son when we were nearly trampled by a police horse attempting to gain order.

No mention in the news of this.

Both lots of so called fans are at faults. Support your team and behave youselves-in other words grow up and let us all enjoy some good old fashioned rivalry.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

Some of the chaps at Charlton have been trying gain a reputation over the past few years with little success….not unless you include setting off flares as being a reason for making a your name for yourself….hurrah!

did exactly the same as us when they came yet palace fans didnt find themselves in the press. Millwall are still yet to come to the Valley this season and no doubt they will cause trouble.... Palace and Millwall fans are both scum end of... Charlton are only reacting to what has happened at the valley recentley and for the palace scum that jumped on train a few years ago breaking someones jaw who wasn't even going to the game.... thugs!!

So going to an away match and smashing up the toilets and seats is Charlton 'getting there own back' ......... Wow they breed them thick at Charlton.

So what did Charlton do when they came to the Den ? Smashed the toilets up. Chair, coins and flares on the pitch from the away end, Charlton thugs offering out people. Funny how the these Charlton 'ard men melted away outside!

Charlton 'ard boys - certainly taught a few wing mirrors around Selhurst a lesson. So smashing up peoples cars that aren't Palace is teaching them a lesson is it? You mug.

The only thing you got right there is the term thugs. Do you think these people care who they hit under the flag of football. Take that away and the thugs will be fighting people at the local kebab shop after the pub shuts.

The cars they smashed up (and are bragging on certain sites about doing it) probably belonged to residents who had nothing to do with Palace

And I see one of the Charlton fans has been charged with possession of cocaine!

Strange how you never hear of this kind of behaviour around Rugby games.

Maybe something to do with the intelligence of the supporters like innit.

Tip-Top says...
11:55am Thu 7 Feb 13

Nothing to do with intelligence I’m afraid Joe, but more to do with territorial instincts of supporters (not all supporters, obviously). These people are proud of their association with their team, whether other people like it or not and will defend the name or honour (?) of that said team.

“Hooligans” have a very different outlook and perspective to the normal supporter!

As you say, it doesn’t happen often at sporting events like rugby (or it’s not reported…..have seen plenty of fights at Twickenham or the surrounding area, but this is just because of drunkenness and not to do with opposing fans I would imagine) generally due to the type of supporter and the cultural background of that group.

These morons who smashed cars and garden fences in the area are too stupid to realise that the residents who's property they damaged might not be Palace supporters

And cocaine? Perhaps Charlton supporters need something before they go to a game
