Bromley and Lewisham policing changes meetings tonight
PROPOSALS to close police front counters at Orpington, Biggin Hill, Sydenham and Brockley will be discussed at public meetings in Bromley and Catford tonight (January 28).
The planned closures are part of the Met’s overall target of £514m savings by 2015 as detailed in Boris Johnson’s draft Police and Crime Plan.
If this proposal is approved Biggin Hill Community Police Office will no longer be open for two hours every week day for people to report crime.
Instead the Met is said to be in discussions with Bromley Council about having a PCSO stationed at the town’s swimming pool and library complex for an hour a week.
And the Met is also talking to Bromley Council about a suitable location for people to visit to report crime if Orpington police station is closed and sold.
The Bromley meeting is taking place at The Great Hall, Civic Centre, Stockwell Close, Bromley, from 8pm to 10pm.
In Lewisham, front counters in Sydenham and Brockley are set to be axed while Catford and Deptford will only offer a daytime service.
A public meeting takes place at Catford town hall from 6pm tonight.
In Greenwich borough, front counters at Greenwich, Woolwich and Thamesmead are set to go. A meeting takes place at the University of Greenwich on January 29 from 8pm.
